Ketton Bowls Club
Ketton Bowls Club celebrates its 49th anniversary in 2023 season and is looking forward to attracting more players from the local community to try bowls.
As well as fielding a team in each of the First and Second Divisions of the Stamford & District Bowls League – Kestrels and Kites respectively – it will be represented by Ketton Welland in the Peterborough League Over 55 League (Tuesday afternoon) and Ketton Hanson at the weekend.
However, the main focus again in 2023, will be its 16 friendly fixtures and to recruit more players from regular Wednesday night roll-ups at which free tuition and equipment is provided. It also aims to raise funds towards bowling green maintenance and to buy a high quality, precision mower. Previously the club has received generous contributions from the village’s Whitebread Trust towards a replacement clubhouse which opened in 2019
The club will stage at least two bowls galas (July 5 & August 30) as well as regular coffee mornings and social events including including a dance, quizzes and potentially lucrative bank holiday car boots in conjunction with KSCC Trustees. Club President Charlie Underwood will also boost further cash from his President’s Day scheduled for September.
The club’s green continues to receive much care and refurbishment thanks to the efforts of its members, Jacob Miller and the expertise of Clearcut Ltd, while its bowlers will continue to compete in the Northants Bowling Federation, for which its club treasurer Shirley Suffling is the current women’s President, having won the national senior pairs in 2021.
